MAXINE BENEBA CLARKE is an Australian writer of Afro Caribbean heritage. She is the author of the poetry collections Gil Scott Heron is on parole (Picaro Press, 2009) and Nothing here needs fixing (Picaro Press, 2013) the title poem of which won the 2013 Ada Cambridge Poetry PrizeForeign Soil, Maxine’s first collection of short fiction, won the Victorian Premier’s Literary Award for an Unpublished Manuscript 2013, and will be published by Hachette Australia in May 2014, followed by her debut novel Asphyxiation in 2015, and her memoir, The Hate Race in 2016.
